James Aycock hails from middle Georgia, but has spent most of the last sixteen years in Memphis. Currently, James leads in the areas of Special Education, Section 504, SEL, PBIS, RTI², and data analysis at Grizzlies Prep, an all-boys public charter middle school in downtown Memphis. He previously served as founding Special Education Coordinator with Tennessee's Achievement School District, after several years as a special educator and baseball coach in the Frayser community with Memphis City Schools.

An occasional writer on education, his work has been featured by the Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Charter School Center, the State Collaborative On Reforming Education (SCORE), Bluff City Education, Memphis School Guide, and Think Inclusive.

James holds a graduate degree in Ethics from Emory University and an undergraduate degree in Religion and Great Books from Mercer University, and he entered the classroom through Memphis Teaching Fellows. He is currently in the second year of the Leading Educators fellowship.
