Building a Better Atom!

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Visualizing atomic theory is often a difficult and frustrating task for students. The CPO Science Atom Building Game provides an illustrative, multi-level, hands-on, model that allows students to construct atoms using colored marbles that represent protons, neutrons and electrons. Students begin by taking turns to build an atom selected from the periodic table. The first player to properly “spend” all the allotted marbles, wins! In the process, students will learn about the constitution and structure of atoms, stable and unstable isotopes, atomic number and mass, while using strategy to compete against their peers! Workshop participants will sample numerous activities applicable to introductory through advanced levels. Sample investigations will be provided to each workshop participant.
